South Jersey Sports Zone: Penns Grove High School Welcomes New Basketball Coaches

Presented By

Penns Grove High School named its new girls basketball head coach at the Penns Grove-Carneys Point School District Board of Education meeting on January 25. Anthony Parsons was approved by the PGCP Board of Education and will become the head coach after previously serving as the freshman boys basketball coach at Deptford High School.

Parsons earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Rowan University and a master’s degree in sports management from Liberty University. The newly appointed coach has over five years of experience in enhancing the performance of both boys and girls athletes in youth sports. His coaching philosophy centers around the concepts of proper strength and conditioning, which is an area he is certified in.

“Success is possible if a team sustains effort; every player knows how to do things right and continues to do them the same way every time," Parsons said.

The boys basketball program also added a new assistant coach in Kyle Goodson, Jr., who is a 2015 Penns Grove graduate. He also played for current head coach Damian Ware.

The newly appointed assistant coach is a Rutgers Camden alumnus and a former three-year varsity player at Penns Grove.

“This is my first official coaching position but I have always been around to help and guide players after me,” Goodson said. “I’m known mostly for the intensity I brought from the sideline in past years as I watched my younger brother, Jamar Johnson Jr., play. I’m extremely excited for this new chapter and ready to bring even more pride to Penns Grove basketball.”
