Fantasy Football: Week 8 Waiver Wire and Injury Report

QUARTERBACKS:

Tua Tagovailoa (MIA): If you decided to wait a week to pick up Tua, now is the time to do it. He’s got a home matchup versus LAR in a game with a 49.0 total.

Philip Rivers (IND): Rivers has not been the most consistent quarterback for fantasy this season, but he draws a nice matchup against the Lions this week. The Colts are favored in this one, and the game has a total over 50. If you’re desperate, you can go with Rivers here.

RUNNING BACKS:

Chase Edmonds (ARI): Chances are, Edmonds is already owned in your league. If he’s somehow still available, get him now. The Cardinals have a bye in Week 8 but after that, play MIA the following week in a great matchup.

Carlos Hyde (SEA): This is a player who is more widely available in leagues. Chris Carson has a mid-foot sprain, but reports suggest he won’t miss much time because of this injury. However, this is not the first time Carson has suffered an injury this season, so rostering Hyde is not a bad idea. Also keep an eye on Deejay Dallas, because as this article was being written, reports about Hyde having hamstring tightness was reported. Seattle matches up against the 49ers next week, and the Bills in Week 10.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Nelson Agholor (LVR): Becoming the new favorite receiver for Carr this season, Agholor has done well in Vegas this year. He has scored double-digit fantasy points in each of the last three games, and draws matchups versus the Browns, Chargers, and Broncos over the next three weeks. Solid place to add help now.

Rashard Higgins & Donovan Peoples Jones (CLE): Odell Beckham Jr. has suffered a torn ACL and will be out for the season. This leaves Rashard Higgins and Donovan Peoples-Jones as the two to pick up the slack. Being Higgins has been with the Browns for a few years now, I have a slight preference there, but Peoples-Jones showed what he is capable of in Week 7 with a 56-yard receiving game and a touchdown. It was Higgins who picked up more targets, though.

TIGHT ENDS:

Harrison Bryant (CLE): Perhaps the Brown who will see the biggest increase in usage is tight end Harrison Bryant, who hauled in four receptions for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Bryant got the start instead of Njoku, who reportedly wants a trade out of Cleveland this past week, filling in for an injured Austin Hooper. Now is a good time to add a tight end who could be a nice bye week fill in for you.

Eric Ebron (PIT): If he’s still sitting out there on some waiver wires, add Ebron. PIT had their bye already, and have matchups against DAL, CIN, JAC after a tough week 8 matchup versus BAL next week.

KICKERS:

Brandon McManus (DEN): McManus has a solid matchup this week against the Chargers, and then in the following week faces the Falcons. McManus sits as the ninth-best kicker on the season after already having his Week 5 bye.

Mason Crosby (GB): Crosby had his bye and will look to keep his solid fantasy season going. He has a solid matchup versus MIN next week.

DEFENSES:

Philadelphia Eagles (PHI): With the state of the Cowboys, you are going to start streaming defenses against this team. The Cowboys are down to their third-string quarterback, third-string offensive lineman, their so-called star RB has some fumble issues, and the Football Team’s defense just put up roughly 17 fantasy points against them. The Eagles have the Cowboys next week, and then a bye.

Tennessee Titans (TEN): In Week 8, the Titans will square up against the Bengals and rookie Joe Burrow. The following week, they face the Bears. After that, it’s the Colts. Three solid matchups for a defense right there.

INJURY REPORT

QUARTERBACKS:

Andy Dalton (Concussion): Was injured after a nasty tackle by Jon Bostic. Dalton did not return. He’s being evaluated for a concussion and a potential neck injury.

RUNNING BACKS:

Kenyan Drake (Ankle): Expected to miss time with an ankle injury. The Cards have a bye in Week 8 but Drake may be out for longer than that. Undetermined at this time.

Chris Carson (Foot): Expected to be back “sooner rather than later,” but expected to miss time.

Carlos Hyde (Hamstring): Has hamstring tightness. Will be monitored throughout the week.

Phillip Lindsay (Concussion): Did not return after leaving Sunday’s game. Uncertain for next week.

Jeff Wilson (Ankle): - Is expected to be placed on Injured reserve with a high ankle sprain.

Travis Homer (Knee): Bruised his knee and did not return. Uncertain for Week 8.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Odell Beckham Jr. (ACL): Tore his ACL, out for the season.

DeSean Jackson (Ankle): Out for 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury, placed on IR.

Dede Westbrook (ACL): Carted off the field, expected to miss the season.

Deebo Samuel (Hamstring): Is expected to be out for at least two games.

Russell Gage (Knee): Left the game versus Detroit, not a long-term injury.

N’Keal Harry (Head): Didn’t finish his game versus SF.

TIGHT ENDS:

Austin Hooper (Appendicitis): Missed week 7 with a late injury and is uncertain for the following week versus the Raiders.
